David, this is true of pencils--that graphite is the medium that makes the mark on the paper, but what about pen and ink? Brushes and paint? Soapstone and chisels? Please try to flesh out your answer to clearly identify the meaning of the word medium like we discussed in class--i.e. artist's medium as opposed to artist's tools...just to clearly show that you know exactly what art media are :)
